'My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2' is an upcoming romantic comedy film directed by Kirk Jones and produced by Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks. Nia Vardalos returns as the main protagonist Toula Portokalos-Miller with the rest of the original cast reprising their roles as well. Its first official trailer has been released and shows the Portokalos family caught up in a silly new dilemma.
Nia Vardalos returns to reprise her role as Toula Portakalos-Miller in the sequel for 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'. Fans may remember her as a Greek-American woman going through a midlife crisis and eventually finding true love in the form of on-screen partner John Corbett. According to Today, the first film raked in a staggering $241 million at the domestic box office and became the highest-grossing comedy of all time.
According to Variety, Universal Pictures recently released the upcoming film's first official trailer showing the return of several familiar characters including Lainie Kazan and Michael Constantine as Vardalos' on-screen parents - who, it turns out, were never legally married in the first place. This predicament leads to preparations for yet another Greek wedding. Vardalos and Corbett's on-screen teenage daughter Paris, played by Elena Kampouris, is also introduced in the story.
Vardalos, who wrote the screenplay as well, announced last June that they had finally finished filming the sequel in time for a scheduled March 2016 cinematic debut. According to Moviefone, Kirk Jones had jumped on board to helm the film while Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Gary Goetzman are producing. Executive producers include Paul Brooks, Steven Shareshian, Scott Niemeyer, and Vardalos.
'My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2' is an upcoming romantic comedy and a follow up to 2002's film of the same name. Its predecessor is one of the most successful comedy films to date and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. It earned $368 million worldwide against a modest $5 million budget.
