'Bridget Jones's Baby' is officially set for a September 2016 release. Rene Zellweger and Colin Firth return to portray Bridget Jones and on-screen lover Mark Darcy respectively with Patrick Dempsey joining in as a yet-unnamed character. Recent photographs showed Zellweger and Dempsey showing some PDA on a London film set.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming addition to the 'Bridget Jones' cinematic series finally has an official release date. 'Bridget Jones's Baby' is scheduled to be released on September 26, 2016. It will follow the titular clumsy yet lovable heroine as she goes on a new adventure into parenthood.
It was reported by the Mirror that one of Helen Fielding's novels tells the story of Bridget struggling with the loss of her husband Mark Darcy. The preceding film 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason' ended with Mark proposing to Bridget. However, it was previously announced that the film will not be following a novel's plot but will instead be based on Fielding's old newspaper columns.
When Patrick Dempsey of 'Grey's Anatomy' fame was confirmed to be jumping aboard as a mystery character, fans were quick to speculate that he would play one of Bridget's latest love interests. According to the Daily Mail, these speculations may have proved true as photographs of Dempsey and leading lady Renee Zellweger showing some PDA on-set were released.
The London shoot last November 6 was the first time Dempsey was seen on the filming set. It was reported that while the cameras rolled, both actors shared some smiles, hugs and kisses in London's famed Olympic Park - with Zellweger clearly sporting a fake baby bump. Mark Darcy, Colin Firth's character, was then seen arriving after Dempsey and Zellweger shared the kiss.
'Bridget Jones's Baby' is the third film in the series of live-action adaptations based on English novelist and screenwriter Helen Fielding's work. It is a romantic comedy directed by Sharon Maguire and is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2016. Filming officially began in October 2 in London.
