Speculations on the cancellation or non-renewal of the crime drama series surfaced when news on potential deaths of either Richard or Kate on the eighth season finale. On the forthcoming episode 7 of the series, Castle plans on surprising Beckett for their first anniversary while Beckett considering on divorcing Castle.
In the recent reports published by Carter Matt, fans were despondent with how Castle Season 8 storyline developed propelled more by the separation of Richard Castle portrayed by Nathan Fillion and Kate Beckett played by Stana Katic. The changes were unwelcomed by the fans.
Writers assured the fans the separation is only temporary and the two will reunite soon. Castle Season 8 premiered weak with a 1.2 ratings in the targeted demographics of 18 - 49 years old compared to Season 7's average of 1.6 ratings.
The news on the decrease of viewership led to the rumors on potential cancellation or non-renewal of Castle. Yibada revealed that Season 8 finale of series may see character deaths of either Beckett or Castle. The deaths will be the response if the show confirms its cancellation.
However, Christian Post reported showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul announced that Beckett - Castle romance is far from being over, not in Castle Season 8. But fans were still not happy that the two will eventually end in their separate ways.
