'Captain Marvel' recent fan favorite Olivia Wilde expressed her enthusiasm over being considered as one of the actresses to play Marvel's much-coveted female superhero. She said she was "thrilled" about the casting rumors that bombarded social media outlets recently. Sienna Miller is the latest to be added to the growing list of lead role favorites.
According to Comic Book Resources, Wilde was asked during an interview about the truth behind the latest buzz regarding her involvement with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming live-action adaptation of the comic book heroine. She responded with a hard "no". But she did express her enthusiasm over the possibility of playing the titular character despite no attachment to the planned project.
Wilde responded to the speculation during her appearance in the 'Late Night Show With James Corden'. According to We Got This Covered, the 31-year old responded to the rumors saying, "It's amazing. That's the thing about the interweb isn't it? People can come up with ideas and suggest them and then it becomes a snowball. I was thrilled. I think that would be amazing but I had nothing to do with it." She said that Marvel hasn't reached out for an offer.
Meanwhile, Sienna Miller has joined the fan casting bandwagon for the lead role in 'Captain Marvel'. According to Cinema Blend, the actress said she wouldn't mind playing Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel should the opportunity presents itself. She said, "I'm not someone who read a lot of comics and I don't really know that world particularly well...but I think it would be quite fun - for my kid as well. She'd like it."
'Captain Marvel' will be Marvel's first standalone superhero film featuring a female superhero. It is scheduled to be released on March 8, 2019 and is part of MCU's Phase Three. Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve are attached to write the screenplay.
