Prolific executive producer Shonda Rhimes recently confirmed that she has killed-off characters in her shows out of spite. On this note, rumors are now spreading that Patrick Dempsey aka “McDreamy” of "Grey's Anatomy" was the actor being pointed out by Rhimes.
In her recent interview on "The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore", Shonda Rhimes was asked whether or not she ever killed off a character because she didn’t like the actor. The host gave a follow-up question of “Who was it?”, while demanding for the creator’s honesty.
Shockingly, Rhimes – who produces three shows on ABC – answered with “Yes”. However, she refused to drop names. People reported the news last Friday.
In light of this development, speculations are growing that Patrick Dempsey – the latest character who was offed -- is one of the unnamed actors the showrunner refused to disclose. Details were shared by The Daily Mail UK.
Patrick Dempsey’s character, Dr. Derek Shepherd, faced a deadly car crash in season 11 of "Grey's Anatomy"– a shocking event that has been difficult for longtime fans to swallow. “McDreamy” as fans would call him, shared a one of a kind love story with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). He had been on the medical juggernaut since the pilot in 2005, evolving into one of Seattle’s most brilliant neurosurgeon.
At that time, Rhimes released a statement following Dempsey’s exit explaining that the decision had not been easy.
"We're family. Those choices and those decisions are never easy for any of us," she said in a report from Us Weekly.
Rhimes, who currently runs "Grey’s Anatomy", "Scandal" and "How To Get Away With Murder", has killed off a slew of actors in her shows in the past years including: Eric Dane (Mark Sloan), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Denny Duquette) and Columbus Short (Harrison Wright) among others.
No word yet from Rhimes if the rumors about Dempsey are true.
