‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’ vs ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’: Which Adventure Game is Better?

By

With Square Enix' Rise of the Tomb Raider being released recently and Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End being scheduled for release on March 18, 2016, fan communities have been debating on which game is better than the other. With this few game reviewing sites have argued some details and standards which would favor the certain game over the other.

The debate, nevertheless, is more than just between two loyal fan communities. The debate is also about the two games competing as Microsoft Corporation's Xbox One and PS4's exclusive video games, reported Bidness ETC. Rise of the Tomb Raider takes advantage on its dynamic environment system with a plethora of puzzles, skill sets, crafting system, and stealth features. Uncharted 4, on the other hand, appears to be even more elusive as it had separate demos during the E3 and the Play Station Experience. It may be difficult to know what Uncharted 4 may offer, but it is speculated to be impressive just like its predecessors.

Meanwhile, a Design & Trend review favors Uncharted 4 over the Rise of the Tomb Raider, with its standards. They opined that the studio has a history of graphic prowess with the Last of Us title, while Naughty Dog has proven an excellent tradition of set pieces on the first three Uncharted titles which overshadowed the Rise of the Tomb Raider. The developers were excellent on its planned set pieces instead of mere open-world elements. Furthermore, Uncharted 4, being playable on PS4 is also an advantage as Rise of the Tomb Raider was only initially playable for Xbox One, given that PS4 is currently outselling Xbox One. Finally, the site argued that the previous Uncharted titles all have overall ratings better than that of the Rise of the Tomb Raider, concluding that Uncharted 4 will follow suit.

On the other hand, Forbes had a different perspective as it favored Rise of the Tomb Raider over Uncharted 4. It commented that the former has a bigger, deeper, wider, and offers more varied action, engaging settings, and more environmental puzzles. It also criticized Uncharted 4 for being linear; the gameplay being the same throughout the entire experience. Also argued is the Tomb Raider title's ability to maintain the sense of drive one gets from a linear game while solving all the problems. The game furthermore captured the notion of exploration, where one remains engaged within the whole game, unlike the Uncharted titles, whose answers were "hidden just out of view in a corridor".

Nevertheless, both games offer each of their assets and features. While a few sites have offered their comparative reviews, the gamers still has the final word regarding which game is better. Players may be able to decide after the release of Uncharted 4 on March 18, 2016 for Xbox One and PS4. Rise of the Tomb Raider is now out in the shelves exclusive for Xbox One.
