Samsung Electronics has promised to its avid fans that the company will be bringing the newest operating system to its handsets. Finally, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ are expected to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow this coming December.
According to International Business Times, a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 user named Danon has revealed on XDA Developers that when he came across an issue with the IMEI number of his handset, he installed the stock firmware using the Samsung Odin tool. The software upgrade has reportedly installed the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update on his device. The System Update that Danon performed should have installed the N920TUVU2COJ5 software version. But instead of it, N920TUVU2DOK5 update was installed that brought Android M to his Note 5.
In addition, it was also stated on an article that Danon has shared screenshots of the build showing that MRA58K.N920TUVU2DOK5 is currently running on his Galaxy Note 5. These screenshots are available on the XDA-Developers link. It is also cited that it is the same build that was previously rolled-out for Google Nexus devices like the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6.
Even though Danon has installed the Android 6.0 on his Galaxy Note 5, the device's IMEI number problem was not yet solved. It suggests that the official roll-out of the Android 6.0 for Galaxy Note 5 users might be near as he was able to install the most recent Android build by unintentionally fooling the system.
Gotta Be Mobile added that there is a leaked document suggesting that Samsung is planning to release the Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0 update in December, to be followed by Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 6.0 updates in early 2016. If this roadmap is precise, the South Korean tech giant might also release its Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Android 6.0 updates starting in February next year.
If the leaked documents are proven to be true, it seems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 users might get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow very soon. Meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge users still have to wait a little longer. Samsung Electronics hasn't confirmed anything yet so they still have to wait for further announcements.
