'Bourne 5' director Paul Greengrass has begun principal photography last September 8, 2015. New photos released from on-set show Matt Damon's titular character in action for his return to the series. It was also confirmed that no crossover will happen with Jeremy Renner's character.
According to GamesRadar, cast and crew took to England to film the upcoming fifth installment in the action-thriller series. New photos released reveal scenes from a rooftop where Damon is seen welding a gun and threatening to use it on another character. Little is known about the film's plot but Damon teased that it will be set in an "austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world".
Damon departed from the series after playing the main protagonist Jason Bourne in the original trilogy of films 'The Bourne Identity', 'The Bourne Supremacy' and 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. In 2012, Jeremy Renner stepped in to play the lead character Aaron Cross in 'The Bourne Legacy'. Damon admitted in a previous interview that he didn't want to do the series with Greengrass.
In an article by /Film, the multi-award winning actor talked about the reappearance of his character in the series. He said, "[Bourne] has his memory back, but that doesn't mean he knows everything. It's 12 years since Jason Bourne has been on the grid. So we have to answer the questions, Where's he been? What's he doing? What gets him going again? So once we solved all that, then we had a movie." It seems that a number of exotic locales will be featured since Damon revealed that the film begins in Greece and ends in Las Vegas.
Rumors of a crossover with Renner's side of the series have finally been put to end. According to Coming Soon, no such thing has been confirmed. Joining Damon for 'Bourne 5' are Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Riz Ahmed, Vincent Cassell and Julia Stiles.
'Bourne 5' is the fifth spy-thriller film based on the popular series of novels by Robert Ludlum. It is intended as the follow-up of 2007's 'The Bourne Ultimatum' and is scheduled to be released on July 29, 2016. Its 2007 predecessor grossed $442 million in the box office.
