Motorola is rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to select users of the Moto G 2014 as a final "soak test" of the update. Android Marshmallow could officially arrive on the Moto G 2014 next week if the final tests go well.
Some users of the second-generation Moto G (2014) are getting a big update on their phones: Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Phandroid reported that Motorola is releasing an update to random users signed up to the company's Feedback Network as part of the final soak test for Android Marshmallow. A soak test of Android Marshmallow is done by real owners of the Moto G 2014 during the final testing stages of the update.
The Android Marshmallow update for Moto G 2014 has a download size of 468MB. If the update performs well in the final soak tests, it could officially arrive at Moto G 2014 devices in the next two weeks. User reviews and reports on Android 6.0 Marshmallow's performance have been mostly positive so far.
The Moto G 2014 is one of the devices that skipped the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update in 2014 and opted to head straight to Android Marshmallow. It was also one of the last devices to receive Android 5.0.2 update's bug fixes and security patches, said GottaBeMobile.
Consequently, the Moto G 2014 experienced some software and performance problems which forced users to reboot their phones weekly. It was reported that if the Android Marshmallow update arrives, the Moto G 2014's bugs could soon be fixed.
Motorola will also release Android Marshmallow to its other devices. Aside from the Moto G 2014, Android Marshmallow will also roll out to the new Moto X, Moto X Pure Edition (2015), Moto X Play, Moto G 3rd Gen, DROID Turbo, DROID Turbo 2, and DROID Maxx 2. Gospel Herald stated that the original Moto X, original Moto G (2013), and Motorola's E Series will not get Android Marshmallow.
Android Marshmallow is expected to bring new features that will boost device performance and efficiency. Moto G 2014 users should stay tuned for updates to come to their phones.
