‘Super Star Wars’ Updates: Classic 16-Bit Game to Hit PS4 and PS Vita

The classic 16-bit game, Super Star Wars, was originally released in 1992 by Lucas Arts for Nintendo consoles. This year, it was remastered to be compatible in PS4 and PS Vita platforms in celebration of the premier of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The game was recently remade and remastered for current generation game consoles and is now available for PS4. Christian Post reveals that the 1992 game was revamped for the 1080p output for the PS4 with additional options for controller, leader boards, and trophies. This was the first time that the game will be released on a platform other than Nintendo consoles.

Originally, the game was an exclusive bonus for the Star Wars Battlefront PS4 Bundle. Now, the Play Station Network is making the game available to everyone by releasing independent copies of the game. The gamestory basically follows the original trilogy. Players get to control Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca as playable characters. Furthermore, International Business Times reported that Sony shall make the game available for crossplay, so that the physical game would be playable in both PS4 and PS Vita consoles.

Super Star Wars, while in a 2D platform with linear format, the game mixed things up, having some arcade elements, vehicular portions, and exploration features. Destructoid reviews that almost every stage offers something new so that no one experience feels the same. In addition, the site appreciated the "silly liberties" applied in the game, which made it loosely follow the trilogy, such as Luke Skywalker fighting the Sarlacc in the early parts of the game, while everyone knows that the Sarlacc never appears until Episode VI. The review also noticed that there is little melee combat and there are no checkpoints, since it was a classic shooter game. In conclusion, the site said that the game remains a classic, and they are happy that it is being introduced to the next generation.

The classic 16-bit game, Super Star Wars, is now available for PS4 and will eventually be available for crossplay with PS Vita. It is also an exclusive bonus for the Star Wars Battlefront PS4 Bundle.
