Earlier this month, FX announced that it was holding off the premiere of the 13-episode "The Americans" Season 4 until March 2016. This will be the latest premiere date of the series so far. Season 3 of the critically acclaimed series starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys began airing in January and had its finale in April.
When "The Americans" Season 4 returns, it will also mark the return of a key character from the past season. An exclusive report from The Wrap says that Boris Krutonog is set to reprise his role as Igor Pavlovich Burov.
The same report says that the character is Russia's powerful Minister of Railways and he is the father of Oleg Burov (Costa Ronin). Krutonog will be appearing in multiple episodes of "The Americans" Season 4.
Viewers might not be familiar with the character he plays but there is a possibility that he will take a more active role this season reports Franchise Herald. This is due to where the storyline of his son Oleg is leading to from last season.
In a statement, Executive Producers Jose Weisberg and Joe Fields expressed their delight with the signing of Krutonog and the whole cast. "We are blessed with an extraordinary cast and crew and grateful that we'll all be able to continue telling this story that we love so much," they said.
Set in the early 1980s and in the end of the Cold War era,"The Americans" season 4 tells the story of Elizabeth and Philip Jennings, two Soviet KGB officers posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC. Although they had an arranged marriage, their relationship becomes more genuine each day during their mission. Their marriage though is threatened by the escalation of the Cold War and their complex family dynamics. Another threat also comes from their neighbor, FBI Agent Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich).
The Season 3 finale was a huge turning point for the Jennings. According to Mstarz, Philip was about to tell Elizabeth that he wanted to end their being spies as their daughter Paige (Holly Taylor) confessed to their pastor that her parents are Russian spies. Meanwhile, President Ronald Reagan denounced the Soviet Union as an evil empire in a televised speech which made Elizabeth hate him so much.
