American Crime, the Emmy-nominated anthology series will return for another season next year on ABC. After months of waiting, plot details and the second season’s premiere date were finally announced. The network also released a gallery of sneak peek images featuring stills from the new bunch of episodes.
According to TV Guide, American Crime season two will tackle issues of sexual identity and socioeconomic inequality between one private and one public Midwestern high schools.
As for the show’s new plot, the publication shared that it will follow high school student Taylor Blaine following his accusation of two basketball players from an elite private high school. Blaine accuses the said students that they drugged and assaulted him after “lewd” pictures of him were uploaded online following a party.
The storyline will launch a scandal dividing the community, building up into racial and class tensions.
Original cast member Timothy Hutton will return as the head coach of the basketball team, while co-star Felicity Huffman will play the school’s headmistress.
ABC has also released a gallery of images via Variety to give fans a first look in the new season. Highlights of the gallery include a scene featuring Andre Benjamin and Regina King cheering at a basketball game and Hope Davis taking pictures at the ball game to name a few.
On the series, Regina King and Andre Benjamin play the parents of one of the accused boys while Davis portray the role of the school’s photographer.
As for the latest season’s official premiere date, TV Line has learned that it is slated to debut on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 10PM – replacing the slot of musical soap Nashville.
American Crime season two also stars Taylor Blaine (Falling Skies), Kevin LaCroix (Eureka), Eric Tanner (The Inbetweeners) and newbie Andre Benjamin.
