Earlier this year, Stan Lee confirmed that a Big Hero 6 sequel, which is currently refered to as Big Hero 7 by fans, is among the list of sequels that they are planning to produce. But since the confirmation was made, official details about the project have been scarce.
However, plot speculations have been numerous for the sequel; one of which suggest Tadashi's return as Sunfire. It is rumored that Hiro's beloved older brother is set to become the main villain that Hiro and the gang will have to fight against. With such speculation, Cross Map also reported that an X-Men crossover might also be possible for the franchise given that Sunfire is considered to be one of the most powerful mutants in the comics.
Moreover, as reported by Master Herald, rumors also suggest that Big Hero 7 might aim for a darker and more serious tone. While the extent of the new theme is unknown, it was further intensified when a new batch of toys for the film were released that showed the prevalence of darker colors for the characters' costumes.
Aside from the sequel, spin-offs might also be released subsequently which will establish a cinematic universe for the characters. According to Movie News Guide, the potential spin-offs for Fredzilla and Honey Lemon are currently being considered.
Fredzilla's movie will reportedly pick up where the events of Big Hero 6 left off, while Honey Lemon's feature is expected to delve into the subject of good and bad science. Whiplash/Lancer is rumored to be the main villain to go fight against Fredzilla, while Honey Lemon is likely to go head to head against Madame LaRoche.
The first film was an international success in 2014 earning $222 million domestically and $435 million overseas. It was directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams. Although details about the cast and director are presently under wraps, more details are expected to be revealed when production progress for Big Hero 7.
