The Mummy Reboot Slated March 2017; Tom Cruise in Talks Lead Role, Universal to Create a Cinematic Universe

Universal Studios is getting ready to feature their classic monsters in the big screen which includes The Mummy Reboot. New casting details about the film claim that action star Tom Cruise is currently in talks for the lead.

According to Variety, a source close to the project revealed that Cruise is currently in negotiations with the studio. Although the studio has not commented on the news, many approve of Cruise's casting especially with the recent success of 'Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation'.

If Cruise ends up signing on the project, he will replace Brendan Fraser who starred in the previous three films. The forthcoming The Mummy Reboot is set to be directed by Alex Kurtzman, with screenplay written by Jon Spaights.

The official synopsis for the film has not been released yet, however, as reported by Mail Online, the film will center on Navy Seal Tyler Colt who will go on a quest to find the terrorist who are hiding in a bunker in an Iraqi desert. They later realize that the terrorists are actually grave robbers who have all mysteriously died.

Upon entering the bunker, Colt and his succumb into a mysterious force, and they eventually find out that the bunker is actually a tomb. Mayhem ensues, and Colt is the only one to make it out alive among the Navy Seal members.

Aside from The Mummy, the studio is also set to release other monster movies. According to The Hollywood Reporter the studio is eyeing on features for Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, and Van Helsing, before they all subsequently appear in an Avenger-style movie.

The Mummy Reboot is set to be produced by Kurtzman along with Chris Morgan, Sean Daniel, and Robert Orci. It is currently slated for a March 24, 2017 big screen release. More details about the project will be delivered as they are revealed.
