Chris Hemsworth is set for another big screen outing in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok and while other cast members have started confirming their return, his The Dark World co-star Stellan Skarsgard also hinted recently that he might return as Dr. Erik Selvig.
Skarsgard's Selvig has been one of the most notable characters in the franchise not only for exposition of the workings of inter-dimensional travel but also providing comic relief. And while his return isn't final yet, Skarsgard said that it is a possibility.
"They have an option on me. I don't know what decisions they'll make, but they have an option on me for the nextThor movie.", Skarsgard said as reported by Cinema Blend. Aside from Thor, and possibly Dr. Selvig, Loki and Lady Sif are also expected to return.
Bruce Banner/Hulk is also set to appear in the film and as previously revealed by actor Mark Ruffalo, Thor: Ragnarok will serve as a buddy film between the two Avengers, although, they are also expected to fight at some point.
As reported by Latin Post, Hemsworth said that he wants the upcoming instalment to be somewhat like a director George Roy Hill's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. "I think those two characters haven't spent a whole lot of time talking to each other on screen (so far in the Marvel movies), so it's something new, I think it would bring something different out of the characters", Hemsworth added.
Moreover, Hemsworth also previously pointed out that the film might need an 'unexpected kind of humor', just like what director James Gunn incorporated in the Guardians of the Galaxy. "It was like off center and unpredictable, and I think we can definitely use a dose of that, you know?" the lead actor said as reported by IGN.
Taika Waititi is currently signed on to direct Thor: Ragnarok, with screenplay by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle. Official plot details are currently under wraps, but more details will be disclosed when the project nears its November 03, 2017 release date.
