Gremlins 3 Confirmed in Development; Zach Galligan Reveals It's Not a Reboot, Old Characters Possible to Return

By

Several decades after the first two films hit theaters Gremlins 3 is finally in development, and Zach Galligan recently clarified that it will not be a reboot or remake. It is also highly speculated that characters from the previous movies might return in the upcoming feature.

Franchise star Zach Galligan who starred in the previous two Gremlins movie as Billy Peltzer confirmed recently that the upcoming film will not be a reboot or remake but will follow the steps taken by the recently released Jurassic World.

"It's not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade.", Galligan said as reported by Screen Crush . "So the only thing they will be - and apparently are going to be - doing is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later.", he added.

Galligan's answer is also in line with filmmaker Chris Columbus' previous statement. According to Collider, Columbus expressed his meticulousness about not releasing a remake for Gremlins 3, instead, deliver a feeling of nostalgia to the audience by bringing back the characters from the previous films but also give something new and interesting.

The first two Gremlins movies were lead by Galligan along with Phoebe Cates. When asked about his return for the would-be sequel/reboot, Galligan admitted that his return is possible, but not officially sealed yet.

'I swear on my life I don't know if I'm in it or not. But I think there's probably a decent chance since I'm one of the few people kind of left standing from the first one.", Galligan said as reported by Daily Mail. However recent reports suggest that Cates' return as Kate Beringer may be unlikely after her retirement. She last appeared in 'The Anniversary Party' in 2001 as a favor to her friends.

Seth Gramahe-Smith was hired previously to write Gremlins 3, however it is presently unclear whether Smith's screenplay is still in the works. It is also unclear whether Joe Dante will return in the director's chair after helming the first two films.
