iPhone 7 as Apple's Thinnest Smartphone: To Ditch Headphone Jack, Use Advanced OLED Technology in 2018?

By

Apple's upcoming iPhone 7 might be ditching the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack on its upcoming flagship to make it the thinnest iPhone ever. The tech giant is said to also use a more advanced OLED screen technology for devices that will be released starting in 2018.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Apple Inc. removing the 3.5mm jack port is probably a move for the company to integrate headphone functionality into the same port used for power and data transfer. Without the jack, users of the iPhone 7 would have to buy headphones with a Lightning cable (assuming Lightning is the all-in-one port Apple goes for, not USB-C). The possible buyers of this handset could also presumably buy a Lightning cable with a digital-to-analog converter and a female 3.5mm plug on the end so they could still use their standard headphones.

Apart from the removal of 3.5 mm jack on the iPhone 7, MNR Daily added some other features that might be present on the upcoming iPhone. Apple will reportedly adopt the more advanced OLED screen technology, instead of the existing LCD technology for future iPhone model screens. There are also talks that if the American tech giant would eventually decide to use the OLED technology, Samsung and LG Electronics may be supplying with bulk screens. In fact, Apple is rumored to make this change for iPhones released in 2018.

Furthermore, Master Herald reported that the iPhone 7 might arrive sporting the A10 chipset. It is also predicted that the new device will arrive in two variants, the first one being a 4.7-inch device that is coming with 2GB of RAM and the Apple iPhone 7 Plus that could come with up to 3GB of RAM - the first among Apple devices.

These, however, were not yet confirmed by Apple Inc. but if proven to be true, this would be a whole new level for the iPhone 7. For now, iPhone fanatics should keep an eye for the specifics of the upcoming flagship device that could surface anytime soon.
