The "Blade Runner 2" movie has gone long way through all the rumors linked to the franchise. Following the news of the original director Ridley Scott's back out, Denis Villeneuve replaced his post. However, Scott needed to leave the director chair and he explained the reason behind.
While the director is busy with his current film, Alien: Covenant, this means he cannot helm the Blade Runner movie as per the Metro. In an interview, Scott admitted his true feelings regarding the issue. It was, according to him, a hard choice and he is disappointed that the project has slipped off his hands. "I had to let it go, which was a bit of a bugger but there we are."
But the sequel film has to push through. "We wanted to get this [Blade Runner sequel] made...If you get it on paper, don't wait," he said.
Just because it needs to be done, Slash Film indicated that a new director took Scott's chair. The studio hired a new filmmaker for the movie in the person of Denis Villeneuve (Sicario). This attracted back the attention of the Blade Runner fans. Especially that they are excited to see a new movie from Villeneuve and from the cinematographer Roger Deakins.
Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling confirmed the previous rumors of his appearance. In an interview with the Collider, Gosling admitted his participation with Harrison Ford. According to the actor, the presence of Villeneuve and Deakins persuaded him to seal the deal. He also revealed that the Blade Runner 2 movie is the next project he will focus on.
Although the studio keeps the details under wraps, Scott revealed some major spoilers of the original opening scene of the script. The movie will open with Deckard (Harrison Ford) introducing him and shoots "the man". The Blade Runner will then come ripping off the dead body. However, the plot twist will reveal that the dead body is a replicant, not a human.
The Blade Runner 2 is expected to have more fight scenes which will also focus on the replicant. Now, it would be intriguing to see if the original script for the "Blade Runner" sequel movie will be maintained.
