Rumor has it that the second season of Wayward Pines might push through. Wayward Pines executive producer and director M. Night Shyamalan and author Blake Crouch have reportedly discussed new ideas for the possible second installment of the thriller series.
According to Ecumenical News, Shyamalan revealed that he and Blake Crouch, the author of the novel the show was based on, have already sat down and figured out an idea as to where season 2 might be heading, although there is no specific confirmation yet if it will push through.
"I'm such an end backwards kind of filmmaker, storyteller, and that's what I loved about doing these 10 episodes. I knew where I wanted to go. I knew I wanted the fences to come down," Shyamalan said, adding that he was happy where the first season left off.
The first season was widely embraced by fans and Shyamalan felt very surprised, excited and humbled by the fans' reaction. Showrunner Chad Hodge revealed in a post by iSchoolGuide that the show was creatively designed for only one season and that it is not necessary to do a new season. The fans, however, wanted more for the show. Since the director and producers are pleased with the first season, it may be a dream come true for many avid fans to have a new season.
The one-off event series' season 1 finale drew close to four million viewers and was the top-rated scripted series of the summer, according to Design and Trend. This is exactly the reason why FOX is not closing its doors on the show.
Wayward Pines is based on the trilogy novel "Black Crouch", about a man named Ethan Burke, a U.S. Secret Service agent investigating the mysterious disappearance of two of his fellow agents in Wayward Pines, Idaho.
