Skybound Entertainment, the creators of The Walking Dead TV Show, and Samsung are coming together to create a thriller virtual reality through the recently launched Samsung Gear VR.
Titled “Gone”, the VR show aims to kickstart a new kind of content for virtual reality users, says Android Authority. Samsung and Skybound strongly emphasize that the show is not altered for the VR headset, but made specifically for it.
"Gone", in a nutshell, is an interactive story about a daughter that goes missing. What makes the show interactive is that the audience become a part of the mystery - solving with the characters of the show, according to EN Gadget.
Although, it’s not a video game so users don’t solve puzzles and find clues. The experience does make you feel as if users are there as the thrill happens. The clips of the mini-series is cut into 5-6 minute pieces of content recorded in 360 degree video.
The users of the Samsung Gear VR can turn their head around to take a look in the surroundings that are also captured in film. In order to allow viewers to enter the fictional world, Samsung and The Walking Dead creators took in another partner, Wevr, to shoot gone using a custom VR camera that captures video in 360 degrees.
Tech Times also notes that the experience includes some hotspots that VR users can zoom into to get a closer look into details of the experience. Samsung Gear VR headset holds “Gone” exclusively, as Samsung developed the app at the same time the series was being shot by Wevr and Skybound.
The series will be made available for free on Samsung’s Milk VR Service. The release of the first episode is set for December 8, and Samsung Gear VR users-to-be, can still get their headsets before that date to experience the 360 interactivity in “Gone”.
