'Mission: Impossible 6' will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie as he confirmed involvement in the series for a second time. He is set to write the script as well as co-produce. Production is said to begin in as early as August 2016.
According to Empire, Christopher McQuarrie has officially signed on to return as director in the planned sixth installment in the action franchise. He directed Tom Cruise in the preceding blockbuster hit, 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' and has become the first ever director in the history of the franchise to return for a second time. McQuarrie is also set to write and co-produce the new film.
The 47-year old filmmaker collaborated with Cruise on other cinematic projects including 'Jack Reacher', 'Valkyrie' and 'Edge of Tomorrow', according to Deadline. McQuarrie took to his personal Twitter account on the 1st of December to announce his commitment to 'Mission: Impossible 6' simply saying, "Mission: Accepted #MI6." His declaration took some by surprise as he previously admitted he would not be returning to helm future films in the franchise.
It is not to say that a second alliance between McQuarrie and Cruise will skyrocket the aging franchise back to the top - the first having earned a mammoth $683 million against a $150 million budget. It became Cruise's second biggest opening day just behind 'War of the Worlds' and the franchise's most successful opening day and beating the 'Mission Impossible II' record.
Cruise is currently filming the sequel 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back'. He will be returning to the 'Mission Impossible' franchise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt for possible filming on August 2016, according to Coming Soon. It remains unconfirmed whether leading lady Rebecca Ferguson will reprise her role as undercover MI6 agent Ilsa Faust.
'Mission: Impossible 6' is an upcoming, yet untitled, film in the action-spy franchise starring Tom Cruise in the lead role. It will be directed, produced and written by Christopher McQuarrie and is scheduled to premiere in theaters some time in 2017.
