'Max Mad 2' is a planned sequel to George Miller's 2015 release starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy. The director talked about Theron's key role in the last film as well as working with the actress. Meanwhile, the preceding 'Fury Road' won the best film of 2015 from the National Board of Review and is eyeing for an Oscar run.
According to Deadline, director George Miller explained that there was more than meets the eye for his first film 'Fury Road'. The first film was referred to as female-oriented and rather feministic. Miller was asked if the idea for Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa was always planned as part of the franchise to which he responded, "That feminist notion arose out of the mechanics of the story."
He said that the conflict of five wives attempting to escape from a tyrannical patriarch needed a female hero and it eventually led to the creation of Furiosa. He added, "I'm happy that people picked up on that, but it was much more character driven. Here was a character who was really interesting, and now comes an actor in Charlize Theron who really responds to it. I'm very pleased about how the character's been received and what happened."
However, later reports revealed that Furiosa may not be returning for the upcoming sequel but instead may find her way in later films in the series. 'Fury Road' earned $375 million in the global box office and received positive reviews from fans and critics alike. According to BBC, the film became a surprise winner at the US National Board of Review walking away with the award for best film of 2015.
According to the Guardian, its latest win at the NBR may give 'Fury Road' a good push towards recognition at the Academy Awards as well. However, choice picks at the NBR may not be a good gauge for success at the Oscars despite votes from the industry's toughest critics, academics and filmmakers.
Other NBR winners include 'The Martian' for best director Ridley Scott and best actor Matt Damon, 'Room' for best actress Brie Larson, 'The Hateful Eight' for best supporting actress Jennifer Jason Leigh and best original screenplay by Quentin Tarantino, 'Inside Out' for best animated feature and 'Amy' for best documentary.
'Mad Max 2' is an upcoming sequel to George Miller's 2015 film 'Fury Road'. It's current running title is 'Mad Max: The Wasteland' with lead actor Tom Hardy set to reprise his role as Max Rockatansky. No other official details regarding plot and cast members have been announced.
