The exact release date of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note is still pending. The update could launch in a few weeks but it will not offer much change to the MIUI.
The Mi 4 and the Mi Note will be among the first Xiaomi devices to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow in a few weeks. The Waltonian reported that Xiaomi's operations manager has confirmed the firmware update rollout but has not provided a specific date.
Xiaomi's Mi 4 and Mi Note smartphones have just recently received Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. Xiaomi said that the two devices will be updated to Android Marshmallow to show the company's commitment in satisfying their customers.
International Business Times said that the Android Marshmallow rollout for the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note will begin in a few weeks. However, the exact date is not yet known.
It was also reported that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note will not bring major changes to the user interface. It will remain as MIUI 7 though there might be noticeable changes in stock Android. The MIUI 7 is said to provide 30% faster system response and 10% more battery life.
NDTV Gadgets reported that Xiaomi partnered with Microsoft to develop a Windows 10 Mobile ROM for the Mi 4. The Windows 10-based firmware is intended for the Mi 4's LTE variant and is available starting December 3.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note are currently running Android 4.4 KitKat. It was reported that Xiaomi will halt development work on KitKat-based ROMS beginning next week. Once the Android Marshmallow over-the-air (OTA) update arrives to the two devices, users can install it and get a taste of Marshmallow's features.
Xiaomi is also working on the Mi 5 smartphone which is believed to launch in Q1 2016. Lei Jun, the company CEO, said that the phone is "worth the wait".
