Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus US Release Delayed Due To Patent Infringements Lawsuits

Xiaomi is bound to release the Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus in U.S but unfortunately, it has been delayed due to patent infringement lawsuits. The Blue Spike LLC has filed the suit against the Chinese smartphone manufacturer in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, asking for a jury trial.

According to Tech Times, the patent troll claimed that Xiaomi infringed upon its U.S. patent 8,930,719 B2, which is named simply as "Data Protection Method and Device." Blue Spike LLC stated that the patent troll shows that the smartphone manufacturer is using the technology in the patent without its permission for the Mi 4, the Mi 4 LTE, the Mi 4c, the Mi 4i, the Mi Note Plus, the Redmi 1S, the Redmi 2, the Redmi 2 Prime, the Redmi 2A and the Redmi Note 2.

Surprisingly, the unannounced but already much awaited Xiaomi Mi 5 and Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus, are also included in the list.

As noted by Phone Arena, images of the much-awaited flagship models have been seemingly leaked which revealed a near bezel-less 5.2-inch screen that is believed to sport a 1440 x 2560 QHD resolution. The Snapdragon 820 SoC is said to be under the chassis together with a quad-core CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU.

It is expected to be packed with a 4GB RAM inside along with a 16GB or 64GB internal storage. It will be armed with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera and an 8-megapixel or 5-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfies and handle video chats. Powered by a 3,030mAh battery, the device is expected to have a starting price os an equivalent to $312 USD.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus on the other hand, is believed to arrive featuring a larger 5.5-inch or 5.7-inch screen, a Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB GB RAM and the same camera combo. This model will be tagged closer to $390 USD. Both the Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus will be equipped with a fingerprint scanner.

Both Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus are expected to be released in January 2016. However, with the Blue Spike LLC lawsuits surrounding the device, it is possible for the launch to be postponed. In the meantime, announcements are still awaited from the Chinese tech company.
