Apple has released two new accessories for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus - a battery case to lengthen the smartphone's battery life and a lightning to SD card adapter for transferring photos, videos and other media files from an SD card to the phone.
The adapter that has been released is something that has been long awaited and exclusive only to iPads, says An and Tech. The adapter will be usable once the phone has been upgraded to iOS 9.2. The adapter also supports USB 3 transfer speeds on the iPad Pro, which will allow for faster transfer speeds and a higher bitrate for video.
Some controversy followed the release of the battery case, which some users have taken as a signal from Apple that their battery lifespan is indeed too short. However, Tim Cook goes on to comment that the battery isn't a necessity if the phone is being charged daily, but will come in handy for instances such as overnight trips and trekking, reports 9to5 Mac.
Stuff Technology also notes the criticism following the 'hump' at the back of the iPhone case that leaves an aesthetic questionability to the case.
The best way that Apple's VP of software engineering, Cheryl Thomas, would describe the battery case would be around it's given catchphrase: "When you need it, you need it." The battery supplement extends the phone lifetime to 25 hours of talktime or 18 hours of LTE internet time. The case comes with an LED indicator that tells the user if the case is fully charged.
The only downside to the battery case is that it does not have the open bottom that other silicone or leather cases have, which may make it a challenge to plug in some headphones into the 3.5mm jack. The smart case sells for $99 in the US and $129 in Canada.
