The midseason finale of The Mindy Project had fans worried for the future of Mindy and Danny. Titled “When Mindy Met Danny”, the Hulu comedy presented an arc for the couple which doesn’t really fits inside the rom-com convention. In other developments, series star Chris Messina is currently working on a new Indie project called “Blame”.
The Dec. 8th installment of The Mindy Project shook things up between Mandy and Danny. Starting off with a flashback during their first day at work, “When Mindy Met Danny” rolled out an half-hour of television which allowed Mindy to reevaluate her relationship with Danny. Entertainment Weekly has shared the details in a report.
In the final five minutes, an emotional Mindy returned to her old apartment, assured that Leo’s crib can fit inside her room and ultimately removed the “For Sale” sign from her window. Are Mindy and Danny going to breakup when the show returns? Fans have yet to wait and see.
E! Online addressed this potential breakup brewing for the couple, citing two factors to consider as to why the writers’ opted to go down this route.
Firstly, they thought that Danny’s absence from several episodes and his annoying beliefs is one of the hard truths why Mindy is thinking twice about their relationship. Secondly, this storyline could only just be a major wakeup call for Danny. Afterall, if they really embody Harry and Sally, destiny will find a way to keep them together.
Danny’s portrayer, meanwhile, is currently working on a new Indie film. Chris Messina has boarded the cast of Blame, a new film which stars/directed by Quinn Shephard.
As reported by Deadline, Messina will play a substitute drama teacher on Blame. His forbidden relationship with a student (Shephard) triggers a deep jealousy with another classmate which will eventually spark some “The Crucible-esque” vengeance inside their suburban high school.
While the potential breakup of Mindy and Danny can be a tad worrying, fans of the hit rom-com shouldn’t lose hope just yet. This storyline may find them walking on a crooked path for a while, fans shouldn’t forget the presence and binding force of Leo.
The Mindy Project will resume its fourth season sometime in 2016.
