Last Wednesday’s episode of American Horror Story Season 5: Hotel finally answered who the Ten Commandments Killer is. In a series of flashbacks, it turns out that it was Det. John Lowe all along. On this note, series star Wes Bentley talked about this major reveal for his character in an interview – while also previewing what’s next for his storyline in the remaining episodes.
The Dec. 2nd installment of American Horror Story was the episode viewers have been waiting for. Not only did it allow for some great performances from Wes Bentley and Evan Peters, it ultimately resolved the ongoing mystery about the series of killings. TV.com wrote in a recap that “The Ten Commandments Killer” rolled out an hour which focuses on how John became the serial murderer.
Viewers first met John as the no-nonsense detective who became obsessed in tracking down the elusive killer. But on a sneaky twist, Ryan Murphy plotted a twist on his character by taking viewers through a host of flashback sequence highlighting his transformation as James March’s protege.
Following the airing of “The Ten Commandments Killer”, Wes Bentley chatted with Variety to offer his thoughts about the shocking hour.
Bentley shared that he had known from the beginning that John was indeed the killer.
“Look, I don’t want anybody to know – nobody can know this – but you’re the guy,” said creator Ryan Murphy on the show’s top secret.
Bentley notes that the prolific producer requested him not to tap on John’s dark side in a way to keep the secret going. Instead, he wants him to allow the Ten Commandments Killer to be part of his subconscious.
“When we shoot the first episode, we’ll pick moments where we can do stuff,” he instructed.
As to what’s coming up for John, Bentley did not gave away too much but he notes that the unveiling of his character’s real identity can only catapult for new arcs to get fleshed out.
“We do have so far to go and there’s a lot of interesting elements brought up by this and they left themselves a lot of room to do stuff,” the actor shared.
Next Wednesday, the spotlight will turn to The Countess and Donovan's storyline. According to The Futon Critic, the Dec. 16th installment will find Donovan learning The Countess' true intentions.
Now that the The Ten Commanments Killer is revealed, it's going to be interesting to watch John move forward in the coming weeks. Catch new episodes of AHS Hotel every Wednesday at 10PM on FX.
