A very sad news has arrived for Mike & Molly fans. On Sunday, it has been announced by a cast member that the CBS comedy will no longer return for a seventh season. In other developments, the trailer for Melissa McCarthy’s new movie titled “The Boss” has been released.
CBS has pulled the plug on Mike & Molly, series star Rondi Reed has announced. The sixth and final season will run with a total of 13 episodes, the actress revealed. CBS has yet to comment on this unofficial cancellation.
“The network has its reasons, and I will not get into a debate, discussion or campaign to get them to change their minds. Other venues were explored by WB and Bonanza Productions (Chuck Lorre) after CBS announced their intentions, but did not turn up a future for our show,” she said on her Facebook page.
The actress also shared that Mike & Molly will wrap-up production on Jan. 27 of next year. In spite of the sad news, Reed remains grateful to have been part of the CBS comedy.
Mike & Molly, which stars Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell, debuted in 2010 on CBS. According to Variety, McCarthy’s contract with the show ends after this season – a strong indication that it might already be on its way to the chopping block. News of the episode trimming was announced in early 2015, the same period when CBS moved Mike & Molly to its Wednesday comedy block with 2 Broke Girls.
In other developments, the first trailer for Melissa McCarthy’s new movie “The Boss” made its official debut two weeks ago.
“The Boss” follows McCarthy’s titular character who after serving her prison sentence for insider trading, decides to re-polish her personality in order to make people like her again. The Verge shared the details on a report. The new comedy, which opens in April 2016, also stars Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage and Kathy Bates.
It appears that Mike & Molly has reached a dead end. Although CBS has yet to confirm the cancellation, Rondi Reed’s statement sounds convincing enough to disappoint the fans.
Mike & Molly season 6 is slated to premiere on Jan. 6th.
