'Thor: Ragnarok' is an upcoming action-fantasy film that may feature Cate Blanchett in a strong female role. It was speculated that she may play the powerful Valkyrie. Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth joked that he wanted his character Thor to defeat the Hulk in the upcoming film.
According to Comic Book Resources, Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett is in negotiations to join the star-studded cast of Marvel's latest film following the Asgardian God of Thunder. It was reported that Blanchett may play a key role as Brunnhilde a.k.a. Valkyrie although some conflicting news stated that other actresses may also join her as Valkyries as well. Marvel was allegedly looking for someone to fill in the shoes of a "bad-ass female".
An article by MoviePilot suggested multiple other key roles Blanchett could portray despite no official confirmation as of the present. One such character includes Amora a.k.a. The Enchantress, one of Thor's greatest enemies in the comic books. Much like a Valkyrie, she possesses phenomenal Asgardian goddess qualities such as superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility and reflexes.
Another possible role for the Australian actress would be the supervillain Queen Hela. In the comic books she is introduced as the daughter of the God of Mischief, Loki. She is known to have the abilities of energy manipulation as well as holding power over the lives and deaths of the gods of Asgard.
Meanwhile, Uproxx reported that Chris Hemsworth talked about an impending battle between this main protagonist and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. He joked, "I'd like to think I let him win last time [in The Avengers]... But because this movie is called Thor, I have to win this time." Thor and Hulk got into a fight on 2012's 'The Avengers' when the latter went on a rampage and it was up to Thor to subdue him.
'Thor: Ragnarok' is an upcoming superhero film directed by Taika Waititi. It is written for the big screen by Folsom, Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost and stars Hemsworth, Ruffalo, Hiddleston, and Jaimie Alexander. It is scheduled to be released on November 3, 2017 as part of Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Phase Three.
