'Iron Man 4' is a planned action-adventure film that will serve as a sequel to 2013's 'Iron Man 3'. Chris Evans, who plays Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressed his interest in joining Robert Downey Jr.'s titular superhero should his character live another day in the upcoming 'Captain America: Civil War'.
According to Digital Spy, Chris Evans admitted that he would like his character Captain America to appear alongside Robert Downey Jr.'s titular superhero in the latter's next standalone film. The two will go head to head in the upcoming 'Captain America: Civil War' to defend their opposing sides despite being allies. The 34-year old heartthrob plays fictional hero Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America in the MCU and is set to make another big-screen appearance in the May 6, 2016 release.
In the new film, Evans' Cap and Downey Jr.'s Iron Man meet at a disagreement when the former decides to defend Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, the assassin Winter Soldier. According to Entertainment Weekly, Evans revealed that although his character held much respect for Iron Man, it was necessary that they part ways as friends due to circumstances.
He said, "You do have those moments of connection, like at the end of Age of Ultron when I say, 'I will miss you, Tony.' There is a love and respect there ... and that's what makes this so tragic."
It would be interesting to see a possible shift in their relationship in the planned fourth installment of Iron Man's series should Evans join the new cast. According to Cinema Blend, Evans expressed his interest at co-starring with Downey Jr. once more saying, "I'd be happy to be in an Iron Man movie. We've been in so many movies together, the titles are almost, at this point, inconsequential. We all win!" Crossovers are common in Marvel's shared universe specifically in the Avengers series of films.
It remains unclear whether Captain America will stay for Phase Three of the MCU. Some speculations allege that Evans will depart the franchise very soon and will be replaced by someone else. In the comic books, Agent Carter and Crossbones shoot Cap and he eventually dies although it is unknown whether the live-action adaptation will deviate from the original plot.
