‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Update: Trailer Upsets Some Hindu Devotees; Hindu Leaders Not Offended Over “Creative Exploration” However

By

The most awaited official trailer of "X-Men: Apocalypse" has been finally released and it caught many people's interest. In the trailer, the antagonist Apocalypse introduced himself as to having been called many things in lifetime like Ra, Krishna, Yahweh. This particularly caught the attention of the Hindu community in the US.

Time reported that the use of the name Krishna has made Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism displeased. They added that Zed thought the mention of Krishna's name and all the other references might confuse "non-Hindus about Hinduism" and offend devotees. Zed posted in his website, "Lord Krishna was meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not for pushing movies for the mercantile greed of filmmakers." He finally asked the filmmakers to eradicate that part in the trailer and the film itself.

However, First Post explained that when Apocalypse introduced himself as those, the creative point of it is not to degrade a Hindu deity. It is merely an outlook of a general idea about historical figures that comes into view to either wipe out or recreate the planet. As in the trailer, Apocalypse was shown saying in an authoritative speech, "Everything they have built, we will burn and from the ashes of their world we will build a better one". This is a reference to the recurring nature of human existence.

Moreover, one sentiment of a Hindu does not necessarily mean all of Hindu devotees are against this comparison. StoryPick posted that there is no outrage over it. They added that it is safe to assume that most Hindus are not enraged over the "creative exploration" of one of their deities Krishnu in the said movie.

The third and final installment of "X-Men: First Class" movie series, "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be released in May 2016 starring Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Oscar Isaac. Are you one of those excited fans that can't wait for the movie?
