Last September, Sony Studios announced that director Elizabeth Banks of Pitch Perfect 2 will be directing the reboot of Charlie's Angels. Sony is moving forward by adding Beauty and the Beast scribe Evan Spiliotopoulos.
Evan Spiliotopoulos most successful film to date has been Dwayne Johnson's Hercules back in 2014. The movie earned $244.8 million worldwide. The busy screenwriter is also set to write Universal Studio's The Hunstman Winter's War, which Stars, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, and Chris Hemsworth. He is also writing an adaptation of a novel by Ben Mezrich's Seven Wonders.
Reports also tells us that Universal wanted him to write the script of Wanted sequel. Spiliotopoulos credit tells fans that he can perfectly balance action and humor which Charlie's Angels reboot will surely need.
Meanwhile Elizabeth Banks has proven to have a gift for drama and comedy and has also shown an affinity for 'girl power' films as the director of Pitch Perfect franchise. The movie sold $70 million domestic during its opening. Banks is now considered the second-largest female director who scored a million on opening day - Pitch Perfect 2 has made $184 million dollars domestic.
Banks shared her thoughts about the reboot with The Hollywood Reporter, "The original ethos of women who graduated from the police academy, and then were given the jobs of crossing guard and meter maid, I feel like that's still very real in the world right now."
Every kid that grew up during the 70's knows how Charlie's Angels rocked the television world. Played by Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, and Farrah Fawcett, the three gorgeous female detectives worked to solve cases for a mysterious agent named Charlie.
By 2000, Charlie's Angels hit the big-screen, with Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, and Drew Barrymore which earned $259,736,090 in worldwide box office. The movie was then followed by a sequel Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle which also earned almost the same numbers with its first film.
Seeing the credentials of both director Elizabeth Banks and writer Evan Spiliotopoulos, fans all over the world can confidently wait and say that Charlie's Angels reboot will top the first two films.
