By

Google's release of the Android 4.4 KitKat sought to solve fragmentation. However, it does not guarantee timely roll out as tech manufacturers have to tweak the platform according to their products and offerings. This is the reason why some handsets or devices receive the update sooner than others. Sony has been carrying out its Android 4.4 KitKat roll out in stages. According to reports, the company will be completing the rollout of the update to devices such as Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z.

Last March, the company started introducing theAndroid 4.4 KitKat to its Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact products. Sony also launched the Sony Xperia Z2 featuring Android 4.4 KitKat. According to Fone Arena, the latest Android firmware will be offering the following features or improvements to the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Tablet Z line:

  • More customizable Status Bar and Quick Settings
  • The firmware features smooth launch animation and an excellent live wall paper. The interface and home screen also mimic the look of PlayStation 4.
  • Improved messaging and overall user interface - more support for Emoji, smiley and fresh animation
  • Users can access the camera apps through the viewfinder of the devices. Some of these apps include personal favorite, Creative Effective and other similar programs.

The following programs also offer enhanced experience through the update: TrackID TV, Smart Social Camera, Smart Connect, MyXperia, Sony Select, Messaging, TrackID, Small apps and other similar applications. Another standout feature from the Android 4.4 KitKat firmware for Sony Xperia is better battery life. The update comes with Battery STAMINA Mode with data management support for extended battery life. Other devices in line to receive the new firmware are Sony Xperia M2, Xperia E1 and Xperia T2 Ultra. According to 3G, the update should reach these devices around July.
