2014 NBA Free Agency rumors: L.A Lakers eying Kevin Love

By

After coming out on one of the worst seasons of franchise history - a 27-55 season that forced head coach Mike D'Antoni to resign from his duties - the L.A Lakers continue to undergo some much needed revival. Now armed with their No.7 draft pick in Julius Randel and the 2014 Free agency fast approaching but still without a head coach to lead the 2014-2015 Lakers, the rumors surrounding the prestigious NBA franchise is spinning fast.

It seems like every hour that passes that Lakers become center of a trade rumor involving marque free agent names. The biggest name that has become part of trade rumors, so far, has been Minnesota Timberwolves super star power forward Kevin Love. The perennial all-star has reportedly grown weary of Minnesota's losing ways and may be forcing his way out of the team. He wants to play for another team in a franchise with a winning culture.

As Bill Ingram of Basketballinsiders.com reported, the TImberwolves are resentfully fielding calls for Love and one of the franchises who are very interested with the super star is the Los Angeles Lakers:

"It's important to note that the Timberwolves have not sought out trade talks regarding their All-Star power forward, and while they have been fielding calls from 16 or more teams, that's because Love's agent is churning the rumor mill. It's a poorly kept secret that the Lakers would love to make Love their next franchise cornerstone. If his contract with the Timberwolves simply expires and he goes shopping, expect his home town Lakers to be his very first stop."

The Santa Monica native is coming out of a monster 2013-2014 season averaging 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game while recording three triple-doubles - the first three of his career - and setting a record for becoming the first player in NBA history to record 2,000 points, 900 rebounds and 100 3-pointers in a single season. And the best part of it, he is still 25 years old and is yet to reach his prime.

With the Black Mamba in his side, Kevin Love will be able to operate the post with ease and possibly become part of a long list of Lakers legends if his continues his dominant performance with the purple and gold. But we need to see first if the Lakers can work out a deal that would force the Timberwolves to pull the trigger on Kevin Love.
