"Insurgent" and "Allegiant," the sequels to the Lionsgate movie "Divergent," will be released in the United States on March 20, 2015 and March 18, 2016, respectively.
The movies are based on the young adult "Divergent" trilogy books by American author Veronica Roth. It is a dystopian novel set in the post-apocalyptic Chicago, in the so-called Divergent Universe.
The big change that has been announced is that "Divergent" director Neil Burger ("Limitless") will no longer be making the movie. He will be replaced by German director Robert Schwentke ("The Time Traveller's Wife," "Red," "R.I.P.D.").
Erik Feig, Lionsgate's president of production, released a statement earlier this year: "We are excited to announce that we have found the perfect director to carry on the story of Tris Prior and the expanded world of Insurgent in Robert Schwentke."
"Robert, with whom we have already had a successful relationship, has proven a master storyteller in multiple genres," Feig added.
Burger will still reportedly be the executive producer of "Insurgent." The screenplay will be written by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman. Filming already started in May this year, taking place at the United States Penetentiary in Atlanta. An Amity Compound set was made at the Serenbe Community south of Atlanta.
The "Insurgent" cast includes Shailene Woodley as Beatrice, Ansel Elgort as Caleb, Theo James as Four, Miles Teller as Peter, Kate Winslet as Jeanine, Hai Courtnety as Eric, Naomi Watts as Evelyn, and Zoe Kravitz as Christina.
New actor Keiynan Lonsdale has also recently been cast as Uriah.
Meanwhile, Roth has has recently released a new book entitled "Four: A Divergent Story Collection" last July 8. This is a collective edition of the five e-book short stories she released starting April 2012 ("Free Four: Tobias Tells the Divergent Knife-Throwing Scene, followed by "The Transfer," which was released on September 2013), simultaneously released with the last three short stories "The Initiate," "The Son," and "The Traitor."
