'Magic Mike 2' news: Channing Tatum and Joe Maganiello to reprise roles, Matthew McConaughey may not return for sequel

By

Warner Bros. has recently announced that the second "Magic Mike" movie is set to hit theaters on July 2015. Here are the things that we know about it so far.

The rumored title of the sequel is "Magic Mike: XXL," but this is yet to be confirmed. In an interview, actor/co-writer Channing Tatum talked about the upcoming movie's cast: "I think everybody's gonna be back, I think, and obviously nobody's deals are done."

"Magic Mike," which came out in 2012, was a box office hit, grossing over $167 million worldwide from a $7 million budget. It also gained positive reviews, holding an 80% approval rating in Rotten Tomatoes.

The stars who will be reprising their roles are Tatum (Magic Mike) and Joe Maganiello (Big Dick Richie). Matthew McConaughey, who recently won an Oscar for "Dallas Buyers Club" may reportedly not return.

In an interview with Dish Nation, co-star Gabriel Iglesias joked: "Word has it that Matthew is probably not going to be involved in this one. He's worth a lot of money ... that whole Oscar thing, the nerve right?"

FashionNStyle reported that if McConaughey will not be part of the sequel, it would probably be because the plot will involve a road trip, therefore his strip club will no longer be needed.

Iglesias hinted talked about the road trip angle rumor: "All they're telling me-because they haven't shown me the whole script yet-is that they're taking the show on the road...so something tells me it's not going to be shot in Florida like the last one."

Moviepilot reported that Steven Soderbergh will not be returning to the director's chair. He will, however, hand over the job to his protege Greg Jacobs.

"Magic Mike: XXL" is expected to hit theaters on July 3, 2015.
