Samsung Galaxy S2 users can choose to update their units to Android 4.4.2 KitKat using a custom ROM. According to the latest information, the new HellKat custom ROM offers a good user experience in just a few easy steps.
The update is for T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989. The HellKat firwmare is based for Android 4.4.2 KitKat CM 11 sources. The HellKat software goes in line with hte Linaro Toolchain thus it is faster compared to the CM. The update also comes with a Red holo launcher theme instead of the Blue on Black.
Prior to update, users should satisfy the following:
-Users should enable the USB Debugging Mode. The configuration can be found under Settings.
-Charge the device at least 80 or 85% to prevent problems related to power interruption.
-Users should back up important personal files, data and settings. People should also prepare a backup of the previous Android OS they have to go back if the new update is not satisfying.
-Install ClockworkdMod recovery.
Important note: Users cannot hold the providers of the update liable for what happens to the unit following the update. Users can update if they wish to change the platform of their unit. Because the update works with custom ROM, Samsung KIES will not recognize the handset after.
Follow these instructions when updating to the ROM:
1. Download the Google Apps and Android 4.4.2 HellKat ROM file package.
2. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S2 to the computer via USB.
3. Copy the file packages to the SD card root folder.
4. Turn off the device and disconnect from USB.
5. Put the device to Recovery Mode. Do this by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together.
6. In the ClockworkMod Recovery, users should do a complete data swipe. Choose "wipe data/factory reset." Confirm or select functions using the Power button.
7. It is optional but people can also erase the dalvik cache to prevent boot loops.
8. Go back to main recovery, select "install zip from SD card".
9. Tap on the "choose zip from sdcard". The volume keys can be used to go to the zip file. Confirm, proceed with installation and wait to finish.
10. Repeat the same steps for the Gapps zip file.
11. After the installation, go to "+++++Go Back+++++" and reboot the phone. Confirm with "reboot system now."
