"Destiny" PC Version From 'Halo' Developer Release Date Leaked; Companion Game Released on iTunes, Google Play [Rumors]

By

"Destiny," the latest game from "Halo" developer Bungie, is set to release on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 on September 9 of this year. But for PC gamers, the future isn't so certain, as Bungie has not detailed when the PC version of "Destiny" is set to release.

However, recent updates point to a leak on Steam, where the upcoming PC release date may just have been revealed. The leaked date, found in Steams' database for "Destiny," announces the game has having a March 2015 release date.

As this is just a leak, it hasn't been confirmed by either Steam or Bungie, but future updates may prove it to be true.

Erik Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, spoke to Polygon in June, and did mention a few things about the upcoming port of "Destiny" to the PC.

Hirshberg said, "Again, no announcements, but it's something that's a heavy point of discussion. And you asked how are we dealing with the complexity of developing for so many platforms, how about one more on top of that? You know, developing on PC is a different animal than developing for consoles and so we just want to make sure that we're putting one foot in front of the other and getting it right, and that it's of the highest possible quality. But obviously I see the same things about the natural fit."

Hirshberg's commitment to getting the PC version just right may be what causes the game to have such a late release date.

The beta for "Destiny," which began on July 17, has also launched with a companion app on iTunes and Google Play. The companion game allows you to alter your character on the fly, changing weapons and costumes and items through the app. This could be a big thing for the game, as those playing online would no longer have to pause the game to update their characters- just switch their attention to a smartphone for a few seconds.

We'll see how it works as "Destiny's" beta test continues.
