Monica Lewinsky 'Upset' With 'Orange is The New Black' Clinton Affair Joke? 'I turn it off,' she says

'Orange is the New Black' is a Netflix original comedy series that tackles the lives of women inside a prison. Aside from being hailed as a very funny show, the show received a lot of award nods and positive reviews from critics. However, one woman is clearly not laughing about the show's jokes, and that woman would be Monica Lewinsky.

The Huffingfton Post said Lewinsky's beef against the show lies on the first season's eleventh episode. In one part of the episode, Nicky (Natasha Lyonne) advised fellow inmate Daya (Dascha Polanco) that in order for her to trap prison guard George Mendez (Pablo Schreiber) into admitting that he is the father of Daya's unborn child is is to do a "Lewinsky" on him.

Lewinsky expressed her feelings on her blog that she posted on Vanity Fair. She said that she was somewhat enjoying the first season of the show until that particular episode, of which she said that the show chose to make "a vulgar reference" to her family name and DNA.

She wrote, "I did what I usually do in these situations where the culture throws me a shard of my former self. (A)fter the cringing embarrassment, the whiff of shame, and the sense that I am no longer an agent running my own life, I shuddered, I got up off the sofa, and I turned it off."

For those who has been living under the rock, Lewinsky gained international fame while she was working as an intern at the White House to the former President of the United States Bill Clinton then. It could be recalled that Lewinsky had a relationship with Clinton, and that details of the affair were so scandalous due to the sexual nature of it that was unfortunately exposed during an investigation into Clinton's capacity as the country's president then. The married Clinton later admitted that he had an inappropriate affair with Lewinsky. Lewinsky, despite initially laying low, remained to be popular and a household name because of that unfortunate scandal.

Wetpaint said that Lewinsky's reaction to the joke was understandable. On the other hand, the news blog argued that the show had not crossed the line eitther, saying that the conversation between the two actors would have naturally occurred in real-life, since the political affair has been considered as part of pop culture.
