Is "Doctor Who" becoming stale? According to the vast legions of "Doctor Who" fans, the answer is probably no.
But according to "Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat, the answer isn't quite the same. When speaking to Empire Magazine (via Mirror), Moffat explained just what parts of the "Doctor Who" formula would be removed for the upcoming season:
"Certain things we were doing a little reflexively. Some of the humour was getting a bit glib. One of the hardest things to notice is when your new idea has become your old idea and it's time to get rid of it."
According to Moffat, it was "time to get rid of" the Doctor. Which might sound a little harsh, but we'll wait and see how the new season turns out before we start to judge.
Meanwhile, Peter Capaldi, the latest actor to play the Doctor, described his new and drastically different costume to the folks at Entertainment Weekly.
"I was keen to avoid items that can be fetishized and turned into merchandise." Capaldi then elaborated on how he and costume designer Howard Burden created a new costume design for the upcoming season: "I'd always seen him in dark colors, maybe because that's how I started with Doctor Who in the black and white days-all those Doctors tended to be dark."
Capaldi will also be a much more abrasive Doctor Who than we've seen previously, according to another piece in MIrror Online. Capaldi, who first rose to fame in "The Thick of It," will reportedly carry his angry, abrasive personality into his performance as the Doctor.
Here's what Moffat said about his personality: "I think kids will think he is the rude Doctor."
Later Moffat added, with a joke, "You might want to cuddle him but he really will resist."
What do you think? Is this too much of a change for the Twelfth Doctor, or is a little change just what the series needs? Be sure to voice your opinion in the comment section below.
