Fans of the TV series, "Downton Abbey" should watch out for Edith (Laura Carmichael) in the drama's upcoming fifth season, Enstars reports.
In a recent interview, Carmichael shared how her character, Edith, has managed to handle the challenges she faced in the previous season. Edith has been hiding a baby and as she hinted, the problems will get worse in the upcoming run of the series.
"It's a tricky place. She's on knife-edge," said the actress. "And the thing that I think makes this situation even worse, which sounds not-too-exciting is that nobody really knows. Even though she's having a horrible time and Gregson's disappeared and her child is separated from her, in the country but not living with her, the family have no idea," she continued.
From Carmichael's hints, it seems like Edith will not get any sympathy from the people dear to her.
"So it's like a private pain, which only sort of adds to that, 'Oh pull yourself together Edith' kind of attitude from the family," the actress said. "So it's a lovely story. I mean the arc is great, but it's not a great place. In the same way that Mary last year, they've done that. You knew that coming into Season 4 that Mary was going to be under a cloud. And I think in Season 5 Edith will be," Carmichael added.
Meanwhile, cast member Carmichael, Allen Leech (Tom Branson), Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates), and Michele Dockery (Lady Mary) is currently busy helping their executive producer Gareth Neame in the promotion of "Downton Abbey" at the PBS summer press tour.
The team gave fans hints on what they can expect from the drama's characters.
Lady Mary will remain torn between two gentlemen, Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen) and Lord Blake (Julian Ovenden). Neame was asked if Lady Mary will finally choose between her two suitors in the next season. The showrunner answered, "She's still not quite sure, and I think that's a good hook for the audience n the fifth season to see which decision she's going to make."
The Dowager Countess' (Maggie Smith) storyline for the upcoming season is described to be "brilliant." A video teaser showed Prince Kuragin (Rade Sherbedgia) being introduced while Lady Mary is overheard saying, "Granny has a past!"
"Downton Abbey" Season 5 is scheduled to premiere in the United States January 4, 2015 on PBS.
