A Touching Tribute to Princess Diana: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge plays with Prince George at newly opened playground at Kensington Gardens

It was definitely a moving scene: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge played and cuddled with Prince George at Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground in Kensington Gardens, a few yards from Kensington Palace where she and William have an apartment.

The playground, which cost £1.7million, was opened in honor of the late Princess Diana on the eve of her birthday three years later. Diana had this special love and fondness of children. "Its theme is based on the story of Peter Pan as it occupies the site of a previous playground funded by the author of the children's classic, JM Barrie," reported Hello! Magazine.

Although no royal family attended its opening in 2000 because of some controversy, which the fund raising committed described as "sad," Kate and George appeared to be having a great time together there.

Kate is determined to make the life of the late princess alive in the consciousness of her little boy.

"It was lovely seeing them play together in the sand. They stayed for about 15 minutes," a witness told the Daily Express.

Despite the presence of three bodyguards Kate and her baby seemed oblivious to whoever was there and what's going on. Kate was enthralled to the sight of seeing her son enjoying himself.

Last 2012, Prince William said Diana would have loved Kate. "It was the one time since she's died where I've thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really, for her more than anything, not being able to see it," E! Online wrote.

"I think she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully, she'd be very proud of us both for the day. I'm just very sad that she's never going to get a chance to meet Kate."

Meanwhile, Baby George is said to be really fond of swimming and a source told the Daily Mail that the Duchess is taking him to the Buckingham Palace to take swimming lessons.
