Making an interconnected film universe is all the rage right now. Marvel did it with "The Avengers." DC Comics, Sony (with "Spider-Man"), Fox ("X-Men") and several more- like the Universal Monsters and Godzilla- have all followed suit.
But according to the latest rumor, "Star Wars: Episode VII" is about to blow them all out of the water. Bada** Digest just published a new piece on the upcoming "Star Wars" films, and how Disney and Lucasfilm plan to expand "Star Wars" media past the point of normal films.
Apparently, a Lucasfilm employee has just told them that "We're going to redefine longform storytelling." And what that means is this- unlike previous films, J.J. Abrams and the rest of his creative team have the entire trilogy planned out in advance. All the stories are written so that they'll link together perfectly.
There'll still be games, comics and books coming out alongside the newest "Star Wars" films, but now they'll be directly tied into the latest movies in a way we haven't seen before. According to the new rumors, it'll be bigger, more ambitious, and will leave "real, lasting marks on the universe."
Now all we need to know is the story- which, according to StarWars7News.com, might be a little more secretive than we thought.
They claim that most of the "Star Wars" story details we already know- that the film will follow Daisy Ridley and John Boyega after they find a severed hand holding a lightsaber, and that they'll meet Han Solo on the hunt for a missing Luke Skywalker, might actually be fake. According to their sources, many of those plot details come from a "Star Wars" comic entitled "Legacy."
And a piece in the NY Daily News claims that "J.J. Abrams has thus far avoided any major secrets being revealed."
Eventually, we'll find out the real story details of "Star Wars: Episode VII," but we may have to wait a while.
