“Transformers 5” to Be Released on 2016; Bay Reveals he Will “Pass the Baton” for Future ‘Transformers’ Movies

The fifth installment of "Transformers" is scheduled for release in 2016, Channel24 reports. Paramount announced last Friday its official 2016 slate, revealing that fans will see "Transformers 5" in two years.

It was previously reported that director Michael Bay that the highly successful "Transformers: Age of Extinction" is the beginning of a new trilogy in the franchise, meaning aside from the fifth "Transformers" film, another one is still coming up.

In an interview before the release of "Age of Extinction" a month ago, Bay explained that the new trilogy is like "a new 'Transformers.'"

"We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one. Yeah, it's the first of a new trilogy," the director revealed.

Bay, however, suggested he is not sure whether he will be working on the next films saying, "I'm not necessarily sure that I'm doing [the others], but that's what it's meant for."

In an interview with USA Today (via Hallels), Bay said, "I will pass the baton for future 'Transformers' movies while I can focus somewhere else." The director is reportedly working on a horror plot named 'Ouija.'

Meanwhile, fans were shocked after rumors about the death of Optimus Prime went online. The report was from NationalReport.net, which is a satirical publication. The report claimed that Bay will be directing "Transformers 5" and will kill the leader of the Autobots. It was also said that "Rodimus Prime" will replace Optimus Prime as the captain.

A part of the article entitled, "Michael Bay On Transformers 5: 'Optimus Dies, Rodimus Rules,'" reads, "Pressed for more details Bay revealed this: 'Optimus Prime has served his time. He is old news. He dies heroically in battle, but it is time for leadership to be passed on to a new generation. We will be introducing a new Autobot known as Hot Rod. He is young and hip and sometimes doesn't think things through, just like Bumblebee. But he will have to learn how to lead what remains of the Autobots against Galvatron and his army of Decepticons.'"

While the article was only a hoax, it was also reported that "Rodimus Prime" could appear in the upcoming sequel of "Age of Extinction." However, it does not follow that Optimus Prime will die and Rodimus will take over.
