Last year, Miley Cyrus made such a scandal at the MTV Video Music Awards by showing her audiences the raunchy and sexy side of her. She famously twerked her way, including singer Robin Thicke's front while delivering a performance in nude underwear. Miley followed this act via her successful "Bangerz" tour, where she evidently exposed more of her skin and chucked her morals behind. However, another image of Miley was shown on the very same stage this year.
During the recent 2014 MTV VMAs, Cyrus was announced by Jimmy Fallon as the new titleholder of the "Video of the Year" for her "Wrecking Ball" video, the New York Times reported. The video has nearly 700 million views on YouTube. However, Miley elected an unknown person to accept her award, to the confusion of many in the audience. The man later introduced himself as 22-year old homeless man from Los Angeles named Jesse Helt, who was later identified as Miley's date to the event.
The blonde man started his acceptance speech by saying, "My name is Jesse. I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now. I know, because I am one of those people. I've cleaned your hotel rooms, I've been an extra in your movies, I've been an extra in your life. I have survived in shelters all over this city. The music industry will make over $7 billion this year, and outside these doors are 54,000 human beings who have no place to call home."
The Times said Miley had met Helt at a homeless center named "My Friend's Place". The center collected an estimated $200,000 after Helt's VMA speech.
Prior to the show, the songstress hinted that she's retiring from her raunchy moves she has been known to make: from sticking her tongue out to twerking. She told MTV referrring to Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" butt-shaking moves, she said, "I can bring that body, I can bring that wrecking ball, but I can't bring that ass. Not that Anaconda. I've retired [from twerking], yeah ... This [next] record might take me five years. I don't know. I'm just going to work on it until I'm done."
