Another month is here (almost), and with it comes another monthly update for the Xbox One.
Major Nelson gives the details for the September update for Microsoft's latest console.
The new update will feature the following:
- A new app, entitled "Media Player," that will allow users to access files stored on USB devices attached to the console. As well, Major Nelson confirms that far more file formats will be available on this Media Player than on the Xbox 360.
- A new "Party App" update, which allows players greater access to party features- certain players can establish themselves as party leaders, and manage parties- removing players, adding players, and communicating/viewing what others are doing.
- SmartGlass Update: Now, players can add status messages to Activity Feeds, and add items that come from both the Activity Feed and GamClips. Gamers can now record clips from their games far easier.
- New regions for "Xbox On"- now, players in Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain and Mexico can power on their systems by saying "Xbox On."
- Other new features include OneGuide for new regions, changes in bandwith usage, the ability to boot to TV and work with GameDVR, and save a player's Avatar Gamerpic.
However, this update is coming a little earlier than expected- according to Pocket Lint, the update was scheduled to be released in September, but is out already. It's not quite clear why Microsoft jumped the gun on this one, but it seems safe to say we might expect this kind of thing in the future.
Previous Xbox updates have had great benefits for the console- according to Gaming Bolt, an older update has greatly improved the system's framerate and resolution abilities. Hopefully, future updates will be able to improve the system in the same way.
Check back soon to see what updates are headed to the Xbox One.
