‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ plot news: Film to focus on the origins of ancient mutants and Apocalypse; Hugh Jackman to play Weapon X?

By

Hugh Jackman might be taking his iconic role as Wolverine into a whole in direction in the upcoming installment of "X-Men," Enstars reports.

With rumors surrounding the re-invention of Jackman's character, fans of the franchise are left wondering if they will see Wolverine as Weapon X in "X-Men: Apocalypse."

If the movie will remain faithful to the original comic storyline, fans will most likely see Jackman as "Weapon X." In "Age of Apocalypse," Weapon X and Jean Grey are working on missions for the Human High Council. When the council planned to launch a nuclear strike on the U.S., Jean chose to withdraw from the mission and helped evacuate the citizens of the country.

This is where she parted ways with Logan. Weapon X was commanded to recruit Gateway. The mutant is capable of teleporting, and his power is needed to take the fleet to America. Weapon X decided to join the fleet, only to find Jean somewhere in America before the nuclear bombs were released.

While there isn't any confirmation as to whether the movie will follow the "Age of Apocalypse" storyline, many fans are hopeful that they will see this side of Wolverine in the upcoming movie.

Meanwhile, there are also rumors suggesting that fans will also see the origins of the other mutants in the highly anticipated sequel. According to Air Herald, much of the movie will feature a number of flashbacks, particularly in ancient Egypt, where the new villain Apocalypse got his start.

In a previous report by Fashion & Style, Apocalypse was the first mutant to exist on Earth. With his superpowers, he was worshipped by the ancient people as if he was a god. In the modern era, Apocalypse has a team of followers called "Four Horsemen." These villains have superpowers that are enhanced by Apocalypse through genetic engineering.

In an article by Christian Post, it was mentioned that Apocalypse's real name is En Sabah Nur, meaning "The First One." The website also added that the villain's powers include teleportation, telekinesis, flight, superhuman strength, and invulnerability.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is scheduled to hit the theaters on May 27, 2016.
