While the third season of "House of Cards" is expected to premiere in months, fans of the highly acclaimed show are already expecting to see more political intrigues and struggle for power come next season.
Season 2 ended with Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) assuming his position as the 46th president of the United States, leaving viewers speculating on what will the ruthless character do now that he is holding the highest position in the government. The show also ended its second season with the potential death of Dog Stamper (Michael Kelly), who was bludgeoned in the head by Rachel Posner (Rachel Brosnahan).
Enstarz reported speculations abou the possibility that Doug might return in the upcoming season of "House of Cards" despite the fact that his predicament last season indicated that he is already dead. The actor's recent participation in the Emmys and his presence in the show's promotional activities, including the spoofs, suggest that the actor was still in the next installment of the political drama.
In an interview with the Washington Post, series creator Beau Willimon shared details of the story arc of Doug and Rachel as the show progresses. He said, "Rachel Posner was never intended to be a big character. She was listed as 'call girl' in her first two episodes. But Corey Stoll was doing such a fantastic job as Peter Russo, I wanted to expand his story. As part of that process, the call girl came back into the story, got a name and became a fully-fledged character. And as a result, this very complex dynamic between her and Doug Stamper started to form."
It could be recalled that Russo (Stoll) was a former congressional member who has been disgraced through Underwood's schemes, the last with the help of Rachel.
Ten days before the premiere of the show's second season in February, it was already announced that the political drama is renewed for another season. However, it was only in July when The Baltimore Sun confirmed that the TV series will continue to film in their office. Just like in the previous season, the offices of The Sun will be used as the setting for the fictional Washington Herald. Reports claim that the filming in the location will take place in the next few months.
Meanwhile, it was reported by NBC Washington last month that the National Mall was closed to give way for the filming of a motorcade scene for the show. Several avenues including Pennsylvania, Independence, and Constitution were blocked to allow the production to shoot the scene.
"House of Cards" Season 3 is expected to return in February 2015.
