"The Amazing Race" is coming back on television screens for its 25th season, and will debut a new twist to the show. A new set of contestants were already introduced that would definitely be something to look forward to in the award-winning series.
The Primetime Emmy-award winner for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program recently unveiled a new twist called "The Save", wherein the team who wins on the first race has the privilege to save themselves from elimination once on the following races. This gives the winners an advantage to move on to bag the title of becoming the ultimate champion.
Phil Keoghan, the show host, announced the big news on Entertainment Tonight, according to a report by Enstarz. The host explained, "If you do really well on The Amazing Race, you could win the most powerful Amazing Race prize ever. Essentially, you can save yourself from elimination."
Meanwhile, Keoghan also confirmed one-armed surfer Bethany Hamilton's inclusion in the show's season. He said that her entrance could be one of the greatest advantages on the show to spread inspiration to people. Hamilton lost one of her arms in 2003 due to a shark attack.
"She's come back and inspired so many young women. Now she even says that this was meant to happen to her just because it's been such a life-changing event and being able to inspire so many people."
Joining Hamilton is husband Adam Dirks, who is also a surfer residing in Hawaii. Other contestants as named in an International Business Times report are:
- The Sweet Scientists -- Amy DeJong and Maya Warren
- The Wrestlers - Brooke Adams and Robbie E. Strauss
- The Firefighters - Michael Ward and Scott Strazzullo
- The Miami Realtors - Lisa Thomson and Michelle Thomson
- The Cyclists - Kym Perfetto and Alli Forsythe
- College Sweethearts - Tim Tsao and Te Jay McGrath
- Team Nashville - Keith Tollefson and Whitney Duncan
- The Dating Couple - Isabelle Du and Dennis Hour
- Mom and Daughter - Shelley and Nici Porter
- The Dentists - Misti and Jim Raman
The show started at Times Square and will move to places in the Virgin Islands, Scotland and Malta, for example. The show's winner will bag the grand prize of $1 million.
"The Amazing Race" Season 25 airs on Friday, September 26 at 8 p.m. EDT only on CBS.
