'The Voice' Season 5 winner Tessanne Chin gets nomination for Reggae and World Music Entertainer of the Year; Blames poor album sales to time constraints, not Adam Levine

Season 5 championship of "The Voice" Tessanne Chin has recently been nominated for the Bob Marley Award for Entertainer of the Year in the 33rd International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), according to the Jamaica Observer. Chin is a relative newcomer in the category, considering the fact that she is up against seasoned reggae icon Jimmy Cliff, new roots reggae movement artist Chronixx, "Beautiful Girls" singer Sean Paul and reggae and dub band Soldiers of Jah Army or Soja.

On the other hand, Chin is not just a singer. Since winning in December under Adam Levine's wing with her power ballads and reggae-rock songs, she managed to break Blake Sheldon's winning streak as coach in the competition, The Hollywood Reporter said.

But Chin's potential star as a chart-topping singer has been tested when her album "Count On My Love" debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 41 with 7,000 copies. This, as THR pointed out, was the lowest sales debut for a winner of the NBC reality singing competition to date.

However, Chin remains confident about her album. The Jamaican-Chinese artist said that although she is equally proud of her album, "Count On My Love" could have done better if there was more time given to the people behind it.

She told Enstarz, "There was definitely a time limit that we had to work with because when you're coming off a show like The Voice there's a momentum you need to stay with."

She even thanked the Maroon 5 singer for promoting her album to his millions of social media followers ahead of the July 1 release date. She also credits him dearly for her win in the competition.

"He was very invested and took the time to make sure we were choosing the right songs. It wasn't just another job for him. I never felt that from him. He's continued to support me so I really appreciate that," she said.

Chin has recently wrapped "The Voice Tour," with the last leg held in Redmond on August 2.
